Dr. TAN, Chong Koay
(Founder / Chief Strategist / CEO)

Dr. Tan is the Founder, CEO & Chief Strategist of PHEIM Asset Management (Asia) Pte Ltd (“PHEIM Singapore”).
He has been in the fund management industry for more than 50 years. He is a Chartered Fellow of Chartered Management Institute (UK) and Fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants (UK).
From 1976 to 1981, Dr. Tan was with South East Asia Development Corporation Berhad (SEACORP) (now known as Amanah Capital Partners Bhd), an investment holding company that owned the first unit trust company in Malaysia and Singapore. He was responsible for advising individuals and institutional clients.
After his tenure at SEACORP, Dr. Tan joined Arab-Malaysian Merchant Bank (now known as AmInvestment Bank Berhad) in 1981 for 7.25 years as the first Head of the Investment Services division. During his time there, he built up the division from a two to a 65-man strong team with the capabilities to provide a full range of services. In 1987, as the first Executive Director of Arab – Malaysian Unit Trusts Berhad (now known as AmInvestment Bank Berhad), he designed, developed and launched Arab-Malaysia Gilts – the first unit trust in Malaysia to invest solely in Malaysian government and bankbacked securities. In the same year, Dr. Tan participated actively in organising and promoting the concept of raising funds from American investors to invest in Malaysian companies through Malaysia Fund Inc., the first Malaysia closed-ended country fund managed by Morgan Stanley and listed in NYSE in May 1987. During that year, Dr. Tan was rated by William Mercer Zainal Fraser as the top manager for retirement & pension funds in Malaysia.
Dr. Tan joined DG Bank-GZB (Asia) Ltd, a merchant bank in Singapore, in 1988 for 2 years and was the Head of Investment Management Division, servicing private and institutional clients.
In 1990, Dr. Tan moved to John Govett (Asia) Pte Ltd (later known as AIB Govett) as the First Director of Portfolio Investments, for 3.5 years. In 1992, he managed The Malaysian Emerging Companies Fund (an original size of US$75m) and supervised the Singapore SESDAQ fund until November 1993. Both funds won Micropal Awards in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
Dr. Tan is the founder of Pheim Asset Management Sdn Bhd (“PHEIM Malaysia’) which started operations in 1994. He served as Chief Strategist of PHEIM Malaysia from 1994 until April 2026. In addition, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer from 1994 to February 2016, before being appointed Executive Chairman in February 2016. Following Affin Bank’s acquisition of PHEIM Malaysia in April 2026, he stepped down from his executive roles with the company.
Dr. Tan is also the founder of PHEIM Singapore which commenced operations in 1995. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Strategist since inception, except between 2011 and 2015. Under his leadership, PHEIM Singapore focuses on investment opportunities across the ASEAN and Asia ex-Japan regions.
Dr. Tan was a Chief Examiner in the Investment paper for Institute of Bankers in Malaysia (from January 1997 to December 2007). He was a committee representative on the Executive Committee of the Investment Management Association of Singapore (IMAS) from 2004 to 2009. Dr. Tan is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of Lee Kuan Yew Fund under the Education Fund since 2004 for 11 years and 2 months and a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism Ltd for 3-year period, both ended March 1, 2015.
Reputed for his acute sense of market timing and stock selection, Dr. Tan was labelled as the “King of the Second Board” in Malaysia for his well-timed investments in small-cap companies in 1995/1996. He was named “Southeast Asia’s small-cap King” in a Bloomberg article in August 2006. In 2008 & 2010, he was awarded “Best of the Best Award, CEO of the year for Malaysia” by Asia Asset Management, a Hong Kong based publisher of the Journal of Investments and Pensions since 1995.
Dr. Tan is recognized within the fund management industry for his wealth of experience and his long and excellent performance track record. Among his best records, Pheim SICAV-SIF – ASEAN Emerging Companies Fund which he launched in 1995 took the top position for all the 1- to 20-year periods among all Equity ASEAN of Lipper Global Classification under International Offshore Universe in terms of total returns in US Dollars on the Fund’s 20th anniversary, February 3, 2015. The fund registered a total cumulative return of 497.37% (in USD terms) which far outperformed the top comparative Fund of 94.52% return (in USD terms) and relevant market index of 44.56% return. The Fund was awarded “2022 Best of the Best Performance Awards” for 25-year period ended September 2021 and “2023 Best of the Best Performance Awards” for 20-year period ended September 2022. The Fund was recently awarded “2024 Best of the Best Performance Awards” for 28-year period ended September 2023 for the ASEAN Equity Category by Asia Asset Management.
Additionally, Dana Makmur Pheim (Balanced Islamic Fund), which he launched in 2002, was ranked No. 1 by Refinitiv Lipper under Islamic Mixed Asset MYR Balanced – Malaysia Category in terms of total return for the 10-year period for 11 consecutive years ended December 2022. The Fund was also ranked No. 1 for the 15-year period for the 7th consecutive year ended December 2023 and the 20-year period for 2nd consecutive year ended January 2023. The return for the 20-year period ended January 2023 was 423.11% vs the benchmark of 120.44%, outperforming by 302.67%. This is an unprecedented long-term track record. Dana Makmur is now rated as world’s most consistent and admired Islamic Fund in this category for its long-term track record. The Fund was recently awarded “2024 Best of the Best Country Awards – Malaysia” for the Best Islamic Fund (Balanced Fund) Category by Asia Asset Management for the eighth consecutive year.
Also noteworthy is his largest Malaysian mandate belonging to the largest pension fund in Malaysia, had cumulatively outperformed the benchmark in terms of TWRR every calendar year for 29 consecutive years ended December 2025. As at 31 December 2025, the fund has outperformed the benchmark set by the client by a big margin of more than 600%.
In 2010, Dr. Tan was awarded “2010 China Top 10 Financial Intelligent Persons Special Award” by People’s Republic of China. Also in 2010, Dr. Tan was awarded the Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award by Enterprise Asia. In 2012, he was awarded “Most Respected Chinese Entrepreneurship Award in Asia Pacific” by China Economic Trading Promotion Agency, People’s Republic of China. In 2014, Dr. Tan was named one of the 80 Global Chinese Eminent Business Leaders by Beijing-based The China Daily. Dr. Tan was named “Market Wizard of Malaysia” by the Beijing-based The China Daily on March 14 & 15, 2015. In 2016, Dr. Tan was awarded the “2016 Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards” under the Financial Services industry category by Enterprise Asia. He was named “The Warren Buffett of Asia” by World Wealth Creation Conference in The Straits Times, Singapore (April 20, 2017) for being one of the best performing fund managers and for truly enhancing value-investing. Simultaneously, Dr. Tan was appointed as a member of Think Tank for Chinese Entrepreneurs by Peking University, Beijing, China. Dr. Tan was also awarded the “2021 National Outstanding Entrepreneurs Lifetime Achievement Award, Malaysia” and “2022 ASEAN Distinguished Entrepreneur Lifetime Achievement Awards” by the Kingsley Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI) in March 2021 and September 2022, respectively. Recently, Dr. Tan also won the 2023 ASEAN Outstanding Entrepreneur Lifetime Achievement Award at 2023 ASEAN Leadership & Partnership Forum held in Jakarta, Indonesia, organized by KSI / ASEAN Economic Club / ASEAN Business Advisory Council. Dr. Tan was conferred 2025 Best of the Best Regime Awards for Best Chief Investment Officer in Asia (30 years) and 2026 Best of the Best Awards for the Lifetime Achievement Award by Asia Asset Management.
Dr. Tan was first invited to give an investment talk to students and members of Economics Faculty of Peking University (北大) in 2016 and was one of the key speakers in Peking University on its 8th Economic Forum in 2017 and 120th Anniversary in 2018. In November 2019, he was invited to speak in 2019 Peking University International Wealth Management Forum, and was invited by the Sustainability Research Institute of Peking University to deliver a keynote address on “One Belt, One Road” for ASEAN region in 2024.
Dr. Tan is the author of his bestselling books “Rising Above Financial Storms” published in late 2015, and his second books “Never Fully Invest At All Times” published in early 2024, which was ranked the top selling book for 7 out of 11 week period ended 4 April 2024 by MPH Group Malaysia. The book won 2024 MPH Best Business Reading Award.
Pheim Asset Management was awarded under the category of Financial Asset Stewardship by The BrandLaureate Brand of The Year Awards 2025–2026.
Mr. TEO, Chon Kiat
(Director of Portfolio Management)

Teo Chon Kiat has over 26 years of investment management experience in Asia ex. Japan equity markets. Prior to joining PHEIM Singapore, he worked for various asset management firms.
He started his investment career in 1996 as a quantity system developer with Koeneman Capital Management, developing and implementing stock ranking model for Asia Pacific equity markets. From 1998 to 2000, he was an investment analyst covering consumer and technology sector with DBS Asset Management. From 2000 to 2011, he managed key flagship funds that invested in Asia ex. Japan region for DBS Asset Management. Following DBS Asset Management’s acquisition by Nikko Asset Management in 2011, he continued to manage Asia Ex. Japan funds before he left the firm in 2012. He joined PHEIM Singapore as Head of Investment in 2013 and left in 2016 to pursue his own interest. He rejoined PHEIM Singapore in 2021.
Mr. Teo graduated with a double bachelor’s degree, a Bachelor of Science majoring in Mathematics and Business Administration as well as Bachelor of Science specializing in Computer Science. He also holds a Master of Science in Applied Finance degree from National University of Singapore.
Mr. LEE, Ken Fung

Mr. Lee joined PHEIM Singapore in 2021. He has experiences in Administration and Accounting prior joining to PHEIM.
Mr. Lee holds a Bachelor of Economics with Honours (Financial Economics) Class One from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia.
Mr. Goh, Swee Iuan
(Investment Research Analyst)

Goh Swee Iuan joined PHEIM Singapore in 2026. He worked with Ouji Seiyaku (M) Sdn Bhd as Key Account Executive from 2024 to 2025. Prior to that, he also worked with CARSOME Capital Sdn Bhd and Public Bank Berhad as Credit Analyst.
Mr. Goh graduated with a Masters in Innovation & Technology Management from University of Bath, and Bachelor of Business (Majoring in International Trade and Marketing) from Victoria University.
Ms. Nurul Nadhrah Farhah Binti Noorazli
(Operations Executive)

Nurul Nadhrah Farhah Binti Noorazli joined PHEIM Singapore in 2024. Before joining PHEIM, she worked with HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad, Malaysia as Primary Banker.
Ms. Nurul graduated with a Dual Award Bachelor of Business (Hons.) Banking and Finance from Taylor’s University, Malaysia.
